About Me

Behind Marvin the Mollusk is me... Hailey. Lately, I have felt like my world is shrinking. I wake up every morning, brew my coffee, and plug into the 9-5 grind. Somewhere between the strategic spreadsheets and the endless "doom scrolling," I realized my creative spark has been flickering out. I find myself living for my next stint of PTO and questioning the meaning of life while sitting behind my laptop screen.

The Wandering Mollusk Post is my creative rebellion. I need a way to remind myself that life is bigger than a cubicle and more vibrant than a digital screen. Traveling has always been my one constant love (trust me there have been a lot of guys who haven't stuck around as long). I'm creating this mail club in an effort to bridge the gap between my daily routine and my passion for traveling.

Why Snail Mail? Because our mailboxes deserve better than just medical bills and junk flyers. I want to defy the digital era (the irony of me saying this while creating a website is not lost to me) with something you can actually hold. Every month, I curate a physical experience (letters, photos, and stickers centered on a new city) designed to help us reconnect with the joy of discovery.

What gives me the right to be your tour guide on our monthly mail excursions? Well, I spent two years living in China. Navigating everything from trying to learn Mandarin (我会说一点中文) to life during the COVID-19 era (which, believe me, is a story for another time). I was there for two years before some family health concerns brought me home. During my time abroad I traveled a LOT within China. Today, I’m based in Seattle, but I treat my PTO bank like a countdown; once it hits 5 days, I’m out of the country. So far I am at 23 countries, I've lost count of the amount of cities, and there are many many more trips on my wishlist.
